1. Smeg BCC02
This sleek, compact, and striking machine, created by the Milan-based firm Deep Design combines the brand's retro aesthetic with the latest technology. It handles every step of the coffee-making process, from grinding beans and tamping them into a puck to making milk into a texturing process and dispenses the right amount - so you can make high-quality barista hot drinks at the touch of a button.
The machine is also available in red, black, or taupe. It can easily be incorporated into any kitchen style. The machine does not come without faults, however. Many reviewers felt that it was a bit expensive for a cup-to- bean maker (and it doesn't come with the milk pitcher).
However, there were numerous positive reviews about the quality of the coffee and the ease of use of this machine. The digital display gives information and step-bystep instructions throughout the entire brewing process, helping you to perfect your drink each time. It even allows you to alter the grind size if not exactly right. It's almost like having your own personal home barista (minus Harry Potter's invisibility cloak, and Elon Musk's rocket-building skills).
This model is perfect for those who like milky drinks. The steam wand is adjustable upwards and downwards to fit most drinking vessels, except Viking drinking horns. We were impressed with the speed and efficiency of the frothing process, too. It creates an excellent, full-flavoured, delicious espresso with a wonderful crema.
The BCC02 is a great all-rounder, quiet and efficient and offers superb value for money at the current price of PS499. Its only real drawback is the fact that it doesn't offer the same level of customisation as some of the other bean to cups we've tried. It has a pump that is 15 bars rather than the standard 19 bars. This is not enough for producing top-quality espressos. But other than that, this is a fantastic bean to cup machine for those who like their coffee strong and black.
